The biggest change to rally car events has to be the commercialization of the sport. This World Rally Championship for Manufacturers proved to be a huge hit. he Lancia Stratos revival was inspired by German car collector Michael Stoscheck and his son Maximilian. The rally car itself took a true turn in development in the 60′s when many companies began to introduce special models of production vehicles made specifically for rallying.

The first four wheel drive rally car was produced by German manufacturer Audi in 1980 and was named the Quattro. Now there are companies that specialize in rally car experiences in which individuals to create special versions of existing cars just for the purpose of winning these rallies. One of the very first models specifically created to win rallies was the Lancia Stratos. To be able to bypass the rules on the entry being a true production model the makers would mass produce just as many as they needed to qualify as a true production car.
