Mercedes E-Class Hybrid revealed in Detroit

Mercedes has announced to join the ranks of manufacturers selling hybrid-powered executive cars with this diesel-electric Mercedes E-class will be revealed at the Detroit show next month.

The E300 BlueTec Hybrid will use a 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. It will be backed up by an electric motor that develops 27 hp (20 kW / 27 PS) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque.

According Autocar: The 201bhp/369lb ft diesel engine is mated to a 27bhp/184lb ft brushless electric motor sited within the gearbox housing. A 0.8kWh lithium ion battery is said to provide an all-electric range of less than a mile at speeds below 35mph. Together, they are claimed to provide the E300 with a 0-62mph time of 7.5sec and a top speed of 150mph.

The E300 BlueTec models are expected to be on sale next September in the North American International Auto Show.
